FAQ

How is Speed calculated in Steal An Egg?
Speed per step = treadmill base × trail multiplier. For example the Angelic Treadmill at +2,000 with the Divine Trail at x14 gives 28,000 Speed per step. Treadmills add, trails multiply.
What should I upgrade first, treadmill or trail?
The treadmill. It sets the base number your trail multiplies, so the community rule is treadmill first, base second, trail third — buy whichever upgrade is cheaper at your stage.
What is the maximum Speed combo in Steal An Egg?
The Astral Treadmill at +3,000 per step with the Moonbloom Trail at x20 gives 60,000 Speed per step, the current maximum documented combination.
How much Speed do I need for each biome?
Approximate gates: Lake ~900, Desert ~10,000, Jungle ~40,000, Snow ~170,000, Volcano ~700,000, Abyss Ocean ~2.5 million, Prehistoric ~17 million. The full table is in the biomes guide.

How does Speed work in Steal An Egg?

Speed is the stat that decides everything about movement: which biomes you can survive, whether you can outrun a guardian after grabbing an egg, and whether other players can escape with your pets. The formula is simple and always the same:

Treadmill base × Trail multiplier = Speed gained per step

Treadmills add a base number for every step you take on them; trails multiply that number. Example from the current game: the Angelic Treadmill (+2,000) with the Divine Trail (×14) yields 28,000 Speed per step. Because it is a product, the cheapest way to double your Speed is whatever side of the equation is currently weaker — which is why the upgrade order below matters more than raw grinding.

FlameRare+12$250K

Prices scale brutally — the Astral costs fifteen quadrillion — but income scales faster if you keep pushing into richer biomes. That is the whole economy of the game: eggs fund treadmills, treadmills unlock better egg fields.

Every trail multiplier (11 total)

TrailRarityMultiplierCost
GreyCommon×1.5$100
GreenUncommon×2$5K
BlueRare×2.5$75K

The Moonbloom Trail arrived in update 4 and is currently the strongest multiplier in the game. Prices and tiers above come from community documentation of the current version — the game updates almost daily, so treat the top rows as the most likely to shift. The maximum confirmed combo is Astral + Moonbloom = 60,000 Speed per step.

The upgrade order that actually progresses

Community consensus, and the math, agree on one order:

  1. Treadmill first. It sets the base your trail multiplies; a ×20 trail on a +2 treadmill is still only 40 Speed per step.
  2. Base upgrades second. Your base holds hatched pets and their income pays for everything else.
  3. Trail third. Buy whichever trail upgrade is cheaper than the next treadmill jump — the product is what counts.

Then spend Speed where it pays: each biome’s speed gate is listed in the biomes guide, from Lake at roughly 900 to Prehistoric at about 17 million. When a gate blocks you, grind the treadmill in a safe biome instead of dying in a rich one.

The free head start most players miss

Before you spend a dollar of in-game cash, claim the free rewards: liking the game, favouriting it and joining the developer group can grant a starting Speed boost of up to +10,000 — enough to skip most of the early treadmill grind and step straight into the Desert. The beginner guide walks through that first hour step by step.
